A Bank of Baroda education loan is a loan that helps students finance tuition, hostel, books and other course-related costs for studies in India or abroad. It is offered through several schemes designed for different courses and institutions. Repayment usually begins after the course period and a moratorium.
A Bank of Baroda education loan covers graduation, post-graduation, professional, management, certificate, diploma, skill and executive development courses, depending on the scheme. It also covers school education under the Baroda Vidya scheme and approved courses abroad. The eligibility section above lists the course categories in detail.
Applicants for a Bank of Baroda education loan must be Indian nationals who have secured admission to an eligible course at a recognised institution. A parent, guardian or spouse generally joins the loan as a co-borrower or co-obligant. Each scheme section above lists any additional conditions.
Bank of Baroda education loan schemes include Baroda Vidya, Baroda Gyan, Baroda Scholar, the Premier Institutions loan, the Skill Loan Scheme, the Executive Development loans and the Delhi higher education guarantee scheme. Each scheme has its own interest rate, collateral and repayment terms. The schemes section above explains every scheme separately.
A Bank of Baroda education loan offers a long repayment period, reduced paperwork and no fees for early closure from the borrower's own funds. Some schemes also offer concessions for female students and no processing fee on smaller loans. The benefits section above lists the main advantages.
Yes, a Bank of Baroda education loan requires a co-borrower or co-obligant, usually a parent, legal guardian or spouse. The student cannot normally take the loan alone. The scheme sections above explain how the co-obligation applies to each scheme.
Collateral for a Bank of Baroda education loan depends on the scheme and the loan amount. Smaller loans generally need no collateral, while larger loans require security and assignment of the student's future income. The scheme sections above list the collateral rules for each scheme.
The interest rate on a Bank of Baroda education loan is linked to the bank's Baroda Repo Linked Lending Rate (BRLLR) plus a spread that depends on the scheme, the institution category and the loan amount. The rate is revised periodically. The interest rate table above shows the current floating and fixed rates.
A floating rate on a Bank of Baroda education loan changes when the lending rate linked to it changes, while a fixed rate stays unchanged for the period set by the bank. Fixed rates are generally priced higher than floating rates. The interest rate table above lists both options for every scheme.
Processing fees on a Bank of Baroda education loan depend on the scheme and the loan amount, and smaller loans are generally free of processing charges. Some charges are refundable on the first disbursement for premium institutions. The processing fee section above explains the current structure.
Margin on a Bank of Baroda education loan depends on the scheme, the institution and the loan amount, and many schemes have no margin on smaller loans. Larger loans may require the student to contribute a share of the cost. The scheme sections above list the margin rules wherever they apply.
The interest that accrues during the moratorium on a Bank of Baroda education loan is added to the principal once repayment starts, and the EMI is fixed on the resulting amount. The moratorium usually covers the course period plus a set period after it. Some schemes allow the borrower to service the interest during this time.
